Tri Bike Selection Help

I’m trying to determine the basic pros/cons between Tri/TT frames
on 4 different brands.  All models are within
my price range of mid-$3000.  I did a pre-purchase bike fit, who said these brands are the best fit for me based on
my stack and reach measurements.  I also prefer 11 speed, Ultegra
components.  So, with the bike
fit being equal, what are the pros/cons on the Cannondale Slice 3, Specialized Shiv Elite,
Guru 301, and Felt B12.  I’m planning to
test ride these bikes in the next several days.
Thanks for any advice.

  • I don't think there are any pros/cons if the bike fits you right, especially since the individual counts for the lion's share of all drag. However, I have a question about what constitutes a pre-purchase bike fit, and whether it was neutral in that the fitter recommended brands that they themselves do not carry. Did your fit give you stack and reach measurements that you could use on published tables to look up which frames/sizes are best for you?
  • Paul, it was a bike fit using the Guru dynamic bike fitter that adjusts while your pedalling. It included a flexibility/functional assessment and finding the most comfortable aero position.  The fitter provided and explained my stack and reach measurements.  He recommended bikes they carry (nicely discounted) and bikes they don't carry.  Their goal is to get you in the right bike. Then after you purchase a bike they will make any adjustments to dial in the fit.

  • I don't know much about any of these bikes, but I did read a review of the Felt by TriRig, that shows some slick upgrades you can do...

  • If the components are the same and they all fit. I assume the weights are close. it's up to you to decide which feels right for you. That obviously includes how the ride is and how excited you will be to ride it. Let's face it, they are all good brands, it's whether any are a match for you.
  • So this fit system: http://www.slowtwitch.com/Bike_Fit/The_GURU_system_4136.html

My last fit was on a Retul MUVE which is comparable. Both of these systems are state of the art so as long as the fitter knows what they are doing then the choice will be good. That said, I put my fit coordinates up on ST which led to questions about the fit and a long dialogue between my fitter (very well qualified) and Mr FIT himself - Slowman, aka Dan Empfield. Result of that thread led to an invitation for me by the fitter to be refit...ultimately ending up with a more aggressive fit, and different numbers, and thus a different bike.
  • Yes, that's the system.  Interesting story about your fit.  Thanks for all the advice.
