5th Toe Pain from PF Tape

The good news is I seem to be getting over the Plantar Fasciitis pain with a good tape job. The bad news is I get significant discomfort 7/10 along the lateral margin of the ipsilateral 5th toe as the tape adducts the the Ist and abducts the 5th toes. I have tried every over the counter option I can think of, including band aids, gel callus covers, and mole skin with little relief. I have also tried alternative tape techniques, such as the figure S which did not prevent the heel pain. Any suggestions?

I'll try and link a pic of the tape technique that works the best when I can get to a laptop/desktop.

  • The photo of the tape technique is shown in Satish's entry on Coach P's PF thread. The only modification is that my PT recommended Leuko Tape for the metatarsal heel section.

  • George, the benefits of athletic tape are actually hurting you b/c it won't move dynamically enough to allow your foot to naturally expand through your stride. Not sure if you have tried kinesio taping, but it has worked for my calves and knees before...KT is flexible and does allow some movement...

    @ Patrick KinesioTape has been part of my kitchen sink strategy with only minimal improvement. LeukoTape has been the only way I can tolerate running for years. My anatomy has probably been through way too much abuse for 53 years. A few years ago my favorite PT pointed out large spurs on my bilateral dorsal from chronic arch loss. It's kind of sad how I thought it was normal cuz I've been living with it for what seems like almost all my life. I just finished the 3 weeks of ice + night boot. Went for a 30 min run on grass last Sunday. I could finish the run without pain but it ached Lateran the day 9/10. So it may be another 3 weeks of run jail.
