Patti's terrible week!

I had an injury to left fibula that was very painful in area of prior stress fracture.  It is not a stress fracture but my doc wants me to chill through the weekend as she just injected the area with amniotic fluid....

I can get back at it on Monday but couldn't do the tests this week for bike or run.  can I move the week for testing to this coming week? (skip IM training week 9 and just do the testing?)  I did the swim test and am at same pace as last year, about 2 per 100m or 1:50 for 100 yd as this was a yard pool.  I'm working on form a bit on each WO

thanks!

  • @Patricia, both sound good. What's the issue with the injury? Trauma or overuse?
  • Amniotic fluid? What is she treating and what type of doctor is treating you? Asks the guy who just had two PRP injections.
  • the problem is related to the great toe being stiff due to bunions and repair for such.  History of old stress fracture due to insertion of Flexor Hallucis Longus onto the fibula.

no fracture at this time and old fracture is healed but lots of inflammation there.  the amniotic fluid is a new therapy which has many anti-inflammatory properties unavailable elsewhere.  so it will cut inflammation that normally wouldn't resolve.... it is relatively new in that drug companies are now investigating this for general use and development.  My podiatrist and I have long professional relationship which is why I was blessed with the opportunity to try it.  (She is the doc for the runner's club in nearby community and I refer a lot of patients to her).

long term fix per my PT is flexibility in toes which I have exercises to do. this is an overuse syndrome. this therapy will just help me heal so I can move forward with therapy to treat underlying problem.  (back to the Power cranks for improvement of bilaterality is in the plan)

not the same as PRP which is usually used in a joint for cartilage regrowth... don't know if that would be used for a ligament injury....  Thanks, Patrick!  I need to stay out of the injury zone!

  • clarification:  the FHL is tight and the bone gives before the ligament does.   therefore stretching the FHL and improving flexibility is the plan
  • @Patricia, thanks for the anatomy lesson in the micro forum!!! Please keep us posted...

@Rob, worth sharing your info in the injury forum?
  • thanks, coach!  sorry if TMI !  appreciate the input Rob!  can run tomorrow.... not quite 48 hours.  Wow!  this is cool stuff!
