How do you carry your repair kit for IM distances while still aero?
I'm sure this has been covered a few times before but forum search seems to be broken for me.
How do you carry all the tools and repair kit on your bike without a huge aero penalty?
I read in another thread about the items (some list were long!) some of you would bring on a RR or actual race, so was curious where you stash all of it.
My initial thought for my own prep was to use a tennis ball 'bottle/can' for everything I need and put in on the Turbo Wing behind the saddle (along with a water bottle).
I use to put my kit in a bento box on the top tube under the saddle but I've read somewhere that the top tube should be kept pristine for aero reasons.

In case you're riding tubulars I don't see any chance to store a spare tire nice and neat but if I would run tubulars I wouldn't even consider a spare tire since tubulars are much less prone to flat-tire than clinchers. Just be sure you put enough tire sealant milk into them before you start
@ Stefan...how do you secure these things under the ISM? I have an ISM too and have a small Colnago seat bag that I've secured to the rails, but the straps are wearing out and I'm not really happy with it. Do you just tape the stuff?....or what?
2 x Spare Tube
1 x Tire Lever
1 x CO2 with adapter on top (twist on a threaded, not fully tightened but close)
1 x Small Allen wrench.
1 x Boot (small piece of old tire in case I have to patch a hole).
I can jam that in and go under seat rails. Then I have Speedfil Aerobottle on front and bottle on downtube (only drink out of speedfil) and a bento for food.
The other spare CO2 is electical-taped to frame...back up CO2 and spare tube rubber banded in Bike Special Needs in case I have had to stop between Mile 0 and 56...
Stefan, Coach P, anyone....what saddle bag will fit/hold this stuff on an ISM saddle? I have a QR TT bike with the aero seatpost. I have had no luck finding a saddle bag that "fits" on my setup....straps aren't long enough is usually the problem. I may have to resort to some "creativity", which will probably look like crap.
Prior to that, I would use a mini saddle bag small enough to hold a tube, 2 CO2's and a tire lever. The other spare tube was wedged under my saddle, same as Stefan.
Tube, Co2, inflator, lever, small multitool in a aero bento box behind the stem.
2nd tube and Co2 jammed under the saddle. Cobb Flow on a P3C
I'll have to get of my gear together and see how much I can cram under my ISM saddle as well. The rest and some food will have to be in a bento box.
Thanks everyone!
storage includes:
aero bottle down tube for tubes and tools.
and for my two bottle holder behind the seat: attachments that hold two co2s screwed in and pump snapped in.
bento box top tube for food.
Robin has to carry a suitcase on his bike for all the stuff he brings with him.
Maybe before we get crazy with critiquing setups we can take the discussion over to this thread?
