70.3 relay?

I'm in week 16 of the HIM preparing for IM New Orleans (April 13, 2014) and I'm trying to come back from a stress fracture in my foot.  I had a great week of running (4mi, 3mi, 3mi, 3mi) but the run just isn't there yet.  The bike is a little behind as well, but I'll be fine with it on race day.  My A race is IMLP so I'm just aiming to be ready to run that.  I'm thinking that I'll switch to a relay for the 70.3.

What I'm asking is should I stay on the HIM plan or do a different plan in preparation for the IM plan for Lake Placid?

Thanks!

    Hey Ethan,

Whether you stick with the HIM plan and race some flavor of IMNO, or focus on LP, either way your foot will still be driving the run training bus. I say:

    • Keep IMNO on the calendar and stay in the HIM plan.
    • Continue to adjust the HIM training plan runs to better suit your foot.
    • Make the call about doing a relay (does WTC allow relays??) or the full HIM as you get closer to the race.
    • If it were me, I wouldn't think twice to pull out early or bail on the run if my foot said it wasn't happening. IMLP is the bigger goal, especially since you're incurring $0 travel and associated costs for IMNO.
    • After IMNO you'll start training for IMLP. But keeping IMNO on the calendar gives you a long run goal (ie, work to safely get your long run up to #x by date y) that also works with your start of the IM plan.
