New bike options

OK,
Todd at TTbikefit did my fit and recommended the following tri bike options for me:
Specialized Shiv Size XL
Cervelo p2/p3 size 61 cm
Felt B12 Size 61 cm

What does the team think about these choices?

Comments

  • Not having actually ridden any of these models (nor even tried to buy a new TT bike since my original purchase in 2005), I am a fan of the Shiv. For some reason, just like it. Take it with a grain of salt though. haha
  • I am thinking that any of the 3 will be a major upgrade from "Granny" my 2002 trek road bike.
While it races my motor to think about the upgrade, it isn't going to happen till after my Oct IM. Just looking for pros and cons of the choices.
  • I own a '11 Felt B14 and I personally think that for the quality and components you get it is the best bang for your buck. Cervelo you can't got wrong and specialized I think are overpriced for the level of components you get compared to Felt.
  • @carlos, thanks that is very helpful. I have heard good things about the Felt as far as price and value.
  • x2 Carlos I have a Felt too more bang for your buck.

Another option is EBay, shop around for a good deal. I got a 7000 bike for less than 2000 with a few miles on it but .... so what!
  • x3 Felt.  This is "Blaze"

  • Kim, where did you get that wheel cover? That is nice!

    This is my stallion.

  • It is the Wheelbuilder cover, then I ordered the graphics from the EN graphics guy. I can't remember the site but i can look for it. The other character is Japanese for "perserverance". (At least I hope it is.) image
  • Ralph, I am a Felt faithful. The company has stood by their products for me in a major way. I bought a B-2 in 2009. I really loved the bike. It came with dura ace components and was truly awesome. I had a fork issue in 2011. They just replaced the fork no questions and also did a recall on the seat post. Last year before IMLP, the frame cracked. They warrantied the frame. They also upgraded me to the DA at no cost. Every bike looks awesome, but customer service and support mean everything. Also, Felt & Cervelo are the two companies that really do aerodynamic testing.  Good luck.

  • FWIW - The P3 started it all. The design was revolutionary and is to this day iconic. The P3 is tried and true. It has been the top bike by quantity in Kona for years. That means fast guys and gals like to ride it.

I raced mine for two season and totally loved it. Cervelo has great service and stand behind their bikes.
  • BTW - "Blaze" still rocks!
  • Just throwing in my vote for the P3. I love mine, and I ride the same frame size you're considering (61 cm). Sharing the pic of my setup for IMAZ 2013. I am definitely not the fast kid on the block, but sure feel that way!

  • Thanks team,
Great input. And nice glamour shots. I had to wipe the drool off of my cell phone. I am going to start looking and see what I can find. Meanwhile back at the ranch, I have to get granny in top form for my half next month. She's not be fast but she had never left me by the side of the road.
  • @kim: I'm jealous of your wheel cover too! Get the gear guy on that!
  • Ralph- I already posted in the Gear Suggestions forum and Rich said they are in search of a new vendor. You oculd probably supply the logo to anyone and get graphics done, like I did on my Japanese character.

Too bad no one can see the logo cuz I'm going so fast. image
  • @Ralph, I bought a Felt B16 in 2011 because like others said, got more bang for my buck. I am very satisfied with it. However, last year I did Hawaii 70.3 and rented a Shiv from BikeWorks Kona, and it felt great riding that bike. Thought the cockpit was more comfortable than on the Felt, but that may be because I have not updated that part of the bike (probably the only part).

  • Here is a little bike porn of my P3

  • Ralph I have the P2 in that size.  I'd go for the P3 for sure.  If we could work it out, I'd be happy to let you take a spin on mine.
