Running backwards uphills

This is mostly a question for Patrick...

A while back I saw some people running backwards up a hill.  So I did some research and decided to give it a try.   Its amazing,  I am much faster than I was 6 weeks ago.  Why doesn't EN have backwards running in its training program?

  • Can you describe what you were doing for training, both backwards and forwards?
And what is up with that girl in the third link!
  • Ha! Who knew I was ahead of my time. I ran a good 3 miles of the St George Marathon backwards back in 2007. It's a downhill course (steep downhill sections) and all that downhill breaking killed my quads, the only way I could keep moving was to turn around and run/walk backwards! I ran on the line in the road so I would stay strait and folks running along side me kept an eye out so I wouldn't run into other runners.
  • Wait, shouldn't this post go up next Thursday? 4/1? image
  • Ok, Jeff Caught me...   Saw like 30 people running backwards up this hill by the Rose Bowl and was like wtf?  I thought Patrick would like to know about the new up and coming fad to help you run faster.    I always found that dogs chasing you makes you faster, but who am I to knock the latest trend?

  • Investigating!!!! Thanks Pete!
