Sedlak Training Roadmap Question

Hi Coach Rich,

I received my Season Roadmap - thanks!  I understand and agree with not worrying/focusing on IM NZ 12 months away - but I had a question regarding outseason planning maybe this summer.  I spoke with Coach Patrick a few weeks ago, and he mentioned maybe trying to get in two outseasons before IM NZ.  That was previous to me signing up for Team EN, so he could have been thinking of the plans for purchase available to me.  I am all for gearing up for my B and C races this summer (my C race is a family competition, and I would love to have the Sedlak 'token' on my dresser for the next year) - but I just wanted to ask that question as I am willing to do the outseason training while having those races this summer.  I only planned two races in order to spend some weekends getting in much longer rides, as my IM NZ training will be 100% indoors certainly on the bike.

If you would still like to keep my Season Roadmap the same - I will execute as directed.

Thanks much,

Leslie

    Hi Leslie,

Welcome to the team! The short answer is that doing long/IM style rides this summer won't do anything for you for IMNZ next year. So fine to do stuff like that because you want to, want to challenge yourself, want to do a century, for example, just to say you did, but you absolutely do not want to be in a place this summer where think that what you're doing this Saturday is preparing you for IMNZ. That way lies significant burnout risk, especially as, as you said, much of your IMNZ training will be done on a trainer.

Just follow the SP I've laid it out for you and then we'll circle back to near the end to talk about what you'll be doing over the winter.

  • And just to give you some quick notes:

    • I have you in the SC plan.
    • That rolls into the Get Faster plan, which is like a Half IM-lite plan. It's legit, solid work
    • From there I'd roll you into the OutSeason, which is 14wks long, and I may take you out of that a few weeks early to drop you into the...
    • IM plan, which you'll do about the last 12-16wks of before IMNZ

The ^above^ is cocktail napkin math, haven't check out how this looks on a calendar, but you get the idea.

  • Roger. I will continue driving the plan you have laid out for me and we'll talk in a few months.

    Thanks!
