"Burning" Legs

Ok, so I was checking this forum out to see other threads on lactic acid and I did see one but it looked a little different. I have a question that I think relates to lactic acid burning in the legs. I'm in the OS plan that started in January and what I notice especially with the cycling workouts is that for at least the first 5 - 10 minutes of either cycling on the bike or on a spin bike, my quads feel like they are on fire!

Could this be lack of recovery from previous workouts, the need to use a foam roller more and stretch more, the need for a ice bath (which I've never done before), or a combination of all? Just wanted to get some thoughts b/c damn the legs hurt. Oh and they really hurt tonight after a rest day on Monday. I'm 44 and been racing for the last 10 years, I suppose recovery takes longer as we age?

  • @David, when I was paleo / cutting carbs, I had a similar feeling...what's your diet like?
  • Patrick, sorry couldn't respond earlier. Diet is pretty standard, but the typical weekday is as follows:
    Breakfast:
Herbalife shake (3 scoops with fat free milk)

    Morning snacks:
    Serving of dry roasted almonds
    Chobani yogurt with granola

    Lunch:
    Sandwich or wrap
    Baked chips
G2, water or soda (I know I need to give up soda)

    Afternoon snack:
    Fruit, mainly banana or cuties
    Kaashi bar or power bar

    Dinner:
    Mainly a pasta dish
    Steamed veggies or salad

Weekends, we usually go out 1 or two nights and try to do a chicken or fish dish. Geez, I was thinking my diet is okay but I do think I eart a lot of carbs. The one thing though is that I am about 10 pounds heavier than my weight after doing IMAZ in 2011. Basically was 170 then and am 180ish now. I am 5'10, and 44. Any thoughts?
