Signed up for my first marathon (Philly)

I figured I'd see what all the fuss was about in running 26.2 miles that was NOT preceded by several hours of swimming and cycling.

I'm doing IMC and IMMT in July and August, taking a couple of weeks off and then start the run training.  I figure I will have about 10-11 weeks of solid run only training leading up to the marathon.

  • I have ran that marathon x2. I come up every year now and do the half mary. Probably will be doing that again this coming year. I think you will really enjoy it.
  • For me the hardest part was laying off the bike. I had all these illusions that I was "losing bike fitness forever" by doing run-only for such a long time (in my case ~18 weeks), but at the end of the day my FTP drop was pretty limited. Make sure to pick a plan that suits you really well...there are a lot out there including the EN plans.
