iBike Newton PWR MTR

Hello,

First off anyone else use the Newton+ PWR MTR?

Also (and I haven't found this answered on Newton site) has anyone had issues with Meeter not showing power or cadence for 15-20 min into ride (then displays appropriately) ...yet Garmin (910) reads cadence fine [so not a sensor problem].....and then when Garmin data uploaded its wonky...BUT when data uploaded to Isaac Software....everything is there from the start to finish.

Anyone have this problem (no issues in trainer mode BTW)

  • It was the first PM I bought when joined EN for NOS in 2012.....wanted to save money as I had just bought a new bike. Long story short was that for me, it was fine as a tool for indoor rides. But when I started riding outside it was useless....WAY too inaccurate/jumpy/erratic . Hence I got a Power2max and have been VERY happy.
  • I struggled with an iBike from 2006-9, including my first year with EN. Although I was quite satisfied with the 3.97 w/kg it showed me, it was just too unreliable and finicky in keeping it calibrated to use reliably as a training and racing tool. I'm totally satisfied with my PowerTap since 2010. I basically just push the button, and off we go. Although I've never gotten my w/kg above 3.53 with it

  • Thanx
I must admit I do most my training on indoor trainer..... I use the Newton + [which seems better than older iBike] and although the unit seems to report quite "jumpy" numbers ....when all is going well...the power #s sent to and reported by Garmin are much "smoother". I believe that is due to the Garmin 910 displaying an Ave per sec. I also use a split display with a 3 sec AVE and that works well to keep me sane image I just have had this funny No reading power at start of ride (but when uploaded is fine). I have only had one ride since last race outside so I need to do PWR vs HR Vs RPE vs Speed Vs (all) indoors #s. How ever what did record looked pretty well spot on. From the noodling at 120-150 watts to SS at 230W and the 45" of powering up a 6% climb at 450 wats.... And I'm OK if it reads even 20 w "off" as long as it is consistent (I can adjust for 160w "race pace" indoors and 180w outdoors for example. I just don't know about the previously mentioned issues.
After thinking about it.... In IM AZ it did the same thing -so I ignored the meter for some time ..then noticed I was pushing 160 w pretty steady (back then my race power was 120-140w) but I felt "OK" till about 90 miles in and then had a tough run....should have trusted the Newton!
On the last race LHC 70.3 I ignored the power as It read crazy high for the first 3 miles, then -as was mentioned- I didn't like the meter reading 60-280-170-30-240-200-90-..... But if I watched my Garmin those numbers where smoothed out and right on track with expected power at speed/hr/rpe.

current issue has no data going to Garmin though ...at least for a while. Wasn't sure if it was a auto calibration issue with new firmware or other now that there is a simplified calibration (no more tilt test etc)

Cant get the $s yet to go with Vector etc. (I want that!)
Also I use 3 bikes so nice to switch easily.
  • power2Max looks interesting ....
