Anyone else loving tranisition as much as me!

Started my tranisition on Monday of this week.  I can honestly say this has been the best break from training in my tri life   The only "training" I did was a short 1400 yard swim on Wed.  And that was mainly to see if I could swim after taking all winter off.  I swam 1000 straight without any problemo!!  Other than the swim I have done nothing, nada, zilch, zero.  Oh, I discovered I was a mom again and made the kiddos breakfast and have actually seen what goes on around home in the morning hours!  The fatigue is slipping away and I am feeling great!  Ya know this is the first Sat morning that I have not worked out in I can't remember!  It feels lovely!  Just had to express that!  Anyone else?

  • I probably have enjoyed my transition week to much... i have just let myself run wild eating everything, sleeping in, staying up late... I didn't do anything till this morning when i rode with my dad and had a mini swim lesson with a local swimmer. I think my transition is working though. I was crazy tired and ready for a change. NOW I am chomping at the bit to start my 12 weeks for my first HIM and am 110% motivated!
  • Philip, I think that is the point!  I am with you, feeling very rejuvinated and ready to being training (well almost ready ).  Good luck on your first HIM!

  • I'm with you Kathy.  A couple of days in the pool, some stretching and strenghtening and one unstructured ride outsdide.

    Feels nice.

  • I loved transition, Kathy! I did what Philip did and went a little crazy - no workouts, eating whatever I wanted, including dessert every night...I gained a few pounds but, by the end of the week, I was super ready to train again!

Hahahah, love it One more week and I will enjoy every minute!

  • I'm all over the board. I've taken some time but also done some work as the bike weather has been so nice. The last week to ten days of the OS were a little unstructured. I'm concerned that I've not stepped away enough and that I haven't really hit the refresh button and that it will come back to bite me later.
I think I need to review what I've really done and not done this past week or so, stress scores etc, and then factor in how I'm feeling overall and go from there.
  • I also have take this week off, with too much eating and no training.  I did curl 4 games with my wife this weekend but that's not really help for endurance sport training.  I plan to take another unstructured week for biking and pick up week 14 OS with the January crew.  I will start running on tuesday.  The bonus for me is that I get some more trainsition after another 8 weeks of OS.

  • I'm biked, ran, and swam like hell last week and am taking one week of transition starting today. Instead of getting up at 5am this morning to workout, I slept in 'till 8. I'm hoping one week of very light training will have me chomping at the bit again.
  • Oh man, you guys are teasing all of us still in OS.
  • the better you can recover that first week, the easier it will be to slightly get back into the game in week two, then back to normal in week 3. Chris, good call on checking the tss stuff to be sure; please keep us posted!

Don't worry, your time is coming

  • What Patrick said is right on the money!!  I so needed a break and I did mainly what he said to do in transition week one, NOTHING!!  I only swam once about 1400 yds on Wed.  The week was great.  I am now on transition week #2 and swam today 2200.  I am feeling so much better physically and mentally.  Glad I listened because it is paying off.

  • The thing about unstructured training is that part of the unstructured is the record keeping aspect. Since the end of OS the stressful stuff has been: a ten mile run, 2x 3 hour rides in the mountains, and consistent swims of 2-2500 yards. Lots of shorter stuff in between but not uber stressful.

I think my hesitancy to get back in the structured training saddle is mental. I've had a good training break but no change of scenery for a while and I make myself sick with all tri all the time. With that in mind, Monday is Opening Day Phillies and Nats and then heading to Boone NC for lots of riding in the mountains. Per usual I am run challenged and will keep up the frequency and not sweat the intensity for now. Since beginning the OS I've dropped 14 lbs on the McCrann Plan, so there's that.

15 weeks out from Germany and the OS put me in good position to go forward. I just need to keep my 'tude intact.
