Help on IM plan
Coaches,
I'm starting my 12week race prep to IM Austria. Because of work and recovery I NEED to take Monday completely off. Also in the past during IM training I've always done my long run on Sunday following the long bike on Saturday( I know you don't like that). Anyway, this time around I'll be better and try to follow the schedule. But here's the problem- there is NO WAY I can do the long run on Thursday MORNING - I have to do it Thursday afternoon or possibly early evening. How will that change my Friday schedule leading into the week-end? Finally what is the adaptive effect of having the Sunday bike follow the long Saturday bike or is it more a matter of the bike not having as much of a bad effect on the body as the run (and thus having less "bad" impact on the overall plan week to week). I'm sorry if this has been covered elsewhere in the past. Thanks for your help.

Hi David,
This is why we don't want you running long on Sunday. This is a very, very good change to make. We have you doing a second long bike on Sunday because, if you've been running on long on Sunday, that tells me that you already have available 2-2.5hrs for training on Sunday. Therefore our experience says that it's better to:
If you move the Thurs long run to the afternoon or evening, you don't really need to make any changes to Friday. But...you absolutely 100% have to get that long run done. The reason we encourage you to do all of your very important sessions in the morning is because The Man and Life very rarely take away your 5-7a morning. However, if you schedule those sessions for the afternoon, Life has all day to think up reasons to take the run away from you. Make sense?
Just as long as you understand that those Thurs long runs are you single most important training sessions of the week. They absolutely MUST happen, no exceptions
