Help With HIM Plan...Coach Patrick

I have a conference this Saturday and Sunday and not sure how to make a change to get everything in this weekend. I have a 30 min run and a 180 minute ride for Saturday and a 30 minute run and a 120 minute ride for Sunday. What changes should I make (if any) to make sure I get this in this weekend?

  • Keith,

What are your training restrictions before or during the conference? "I have a conference this weekend" can mean a lot of things, please give us more detail.

I'm moving this thread to the Micro Forum, as Patrick handles those.
  • Ideally you can get the Sat ride in on Friday....then we can just have you run 45' each day, last 15' of each run is tempo in Zone 3, done.

Is that an option? Note -- you'd drop the regularly scheduled Friday workout for this adjustment.
  • The conference is all day Saturday and a half a day on Sunday. I thought about getting up at 4am to ride and run in the evening when I get home. For Sunday do the same thing as well. I just wanted to make sure I get a quality workout in w/o cutting it too short. Would you rather I call you to setup a discussion? Thanks for your time.
  • We can talk if you like a fine. It just wasn't a lot of information when you said conference… Most people have to travel to a conference in that wasn't clear. And also wasn't clear when it was starting and ending. Or what you're doing when you're there. But now I'm learning more. :-)

Manny sure have with you getting up early to ride and running later the day and then having a conference during the days just cumulative fatigue. You make at the workouts done and be successful at the conference but yourself back several days into the next week which could lead to you breaking down or getting sick.

I would pick the early-morning cycling and drop any runs from both of those days. I would cut Saturday's ride down to 2 1/2 hours to make sure you get in the main set. Sunday's ride I would keep it two an a half hours as well get as much time in zone three as possible. That's a solid five hours of work on top of everything else you have going on that weekend. See if the second half of Sunday for the normal weekend stuff you need to get done and we're back at it on Monday.
  • Actually that's exactly what I was thinking of doing anyway. I'm going over my conference schedule again to see if I can squeeze in the run somewhere. Thank you!
  • Great! Keep me posted!
  • Well Saturday I did a 2 hr bike ride b$ I went to the conference. Didn't sleep well and didn't want to over do it. Sunday morning I went ahead and ran 30 minutes and got on the bike after the conference. Only got in 1.5 hrs as again I didn't sleep well. Felt better Sun morning after using a the NormaTec Pro at the vendor booth. Just didn't have anything that afternoon. Glad it's over now I can focus on this week and weekend rides. Doing a 50 mile bike ride for Cystic Fibrosis on Saturday. Looking forward to that.
  • Keith - solid work, and you were right not to push it when you weren't rested. On the same way, I just can't sleep when I'm doing stuff out of the ordinary whether it's staying at a new hotel or working on the weekends. Let's get you back on that nice happy schedule so you'll be ready for that ride this weekend.
  • Will do!! Thanks for your help!!
