Bike training mid-week for frequent traveler

Hi EN,

I travel e/o week for work up to Seattle from CA and stay in the same hotel.  I have a couple questions re: best way to do bike workouts during that time. We have a great gym at work with spin bikes, so that's an option (although no power.)  I'm also considering bringing up an older road bike and buy a trainer to keep up here (hotel has already ok'd storage.)  So... questions are:

  1. spin bike or old road bike / trainer?
  2. if road bike, should I slap on some aero bars and get it fit as closely as possible to my TT setup?
  3. I don't have power on the road bike; what do you think about me using TrainerRoad?  Haven't used this before, but I think I can use it to just register power on my laptop and still use EN workouts, right?  Does it work on a mac?  Any specific trainers you'd recommend for "pairing"?

Thanks all!

Road bike on trainer
    2. if road bike, should I slap on some aero bars and get it fit as closely as possible to my TT setup? Sure, if you can score a pair for crazy cheap. IOW, not required but bonus if you can do it.
    3. I don't have power on the road bike; what do you think about me using TrainerRoad?  Haven't used this before, but I think I can use it to just register power on my laptop and still use EN workouts, right?  Does it work on a mac?  Any specific trainers you'd recommend for "pairing"? Lots of our athletes using TR. I recommend you search in the Power forum and/or post your TR questions in there in a separate thread.

    Thanks all!

  • TR works fine on a mac.  You must have (a) a supported trainer and (b) an ant speed/cadence sensor.  ANT+ HR strap optional...
