Maybe not the best timing as the Princeton 70.3 is the day after. Race sites are only 3 hours from each other. I know this year Princeton is sold out, but towards the future that may be tough to sell out both races.
I've got a rave report from Chesapeake man from September 2013 in the race report forum. Would guess the course will be similar.
I may just have to volunteer this year as I am on a no ironman break in 2014... Two hour drive to an ironman almost makes this mandatory for me in 2015. Nice area, pretty course, just needs more athletes and some better support on the run course which the ironman brand should fix.
Nate, i am in the same boat.. NO IM for 2014.. but honestly, how can we guarantee it will be here next year? Do i take the risk? because i was going to sign up for an IM's like Chatt or WI or MT... so risky if you ask me. Also i wanted to another team race next year. So what do i do???? PLEASE GIVE ME ADVICE!
Hey guys I'm in the same boat with all you local folks. What to do? I'm doing IMMT this summer and was going to race Chatt in 2015, but with MD being so close, I'm tempted to do this one. I won't lie, the cost savings (travel) of doing this one vs Chatt is a big draw. Worried about committing to MD for 2015 if there is even the slightest question of it being back. What do you all think?
Is there any reason to think it won't last at least two years? I'm a little surprised its such a quick turn between now and September. A lot of people are already locked in for 2014. I would think ironman wouldn't get a true feeling on interest until they went through a full season cycle of people signing up for races. I wonder what the contract with The town is.
This is just Chesapeakeman with an M-Dot logo. So it's not like this is a first time race for the area. I bet it sells out whereas Chesapeakeman could barely conjure up 400 racers. The power of Ironman is quite impressive.
I also believe they will juggle around dates next year.
Los Cabos moved from March to October (2 weeks after Kona, whats up with that?) next year, which frees up 50 2015 slots, making the 30 added on short notice in MD seem feasible.
@ Al - Los Cabos didn't even pull 1000 age groupers this year. I think they have declared March a no go for that race ... sort of like the problems IMAZ was having in March only worse. If it fails again in 2015 I bet it will be the last one. I am thinking of going before its gone.

I also wonder if Eagleman will suffer now that it's both owned and run by Ironman?!
So many questions!
