UCAN and IM Nutrition

Anyone have experience using UCAN (per Sebohar) in IM. Have read a few different regimens. Comments/experiences appreciated.

  • I used UCAN for pre-ride and pre-race nutrition last year. I tried it for actual ride nutrition, but it was too chalky for me. I'm going to experiment with it again this yr to hopefully find a solution to the taste.

FWIW, Ben Greenfield raced IM Whistler in a keto-genic state this yr and also raced Kona like this. He used UCAN mixed with Energy 28 for flavor and taking MAP pills. I'm gonna at least try this in training and see how I respond, I am NOT keto-genic, but I do eat a high fat, reasonably low carb (no refined carbs and no gluten) diet. So I'm always trying to find nutrition that will allow me to have a stabile blood sugar and diminished bonking.

Ben Greenfield goes into more detail in this post, but he has talked about it in many many different podcast on his own channel as well as a guest on other people's podcast shows. http://www.bengreenfieldfitness.com/2012/09/healthy-race-day-nutrition-plan/
  • Jed, I can hook you up with some samples. I have been using it for 3 years now. IMLP was a disaster but IMMT worked or well. I used it as a starter and at the bike start and then switched to Hammer Sustained Energy and Perpetuem.
