Change of plans for 2015??
So I have 2014 and 2015 pretty much planned... This year Quassy HIM, IMLP training camp, IMLP volunteer and register, then Timberman. 2015- Quassy HIM, then IMLP. I'll admit, Challenge AC and IMMaryland are tempting to change to for 2015. My ride today reminded me how much work I still have to do re climbing,
I chose IMFL as my first IM in 2012 for a reason.... Flat. I figured by 2015 I could handle hills. Plus I need a semi local race cuz the wifey don't fly (yet). So these 2 flats, east coast races really have me reconsidering IMLP. I know only I can make the decision but any input you have would be appreciated. Thanks!

Kim,
I'm late to this thread but here's my 0.02.
I like Nate's suggestion but will you have the opportunity to register after the training camp. Just remember it's a year away. I rode the course in 2004 with a 10 speed very early in the season and realized that I needed more gears and also more training. I was going to do two loops and only completed one that day. Just working on the engine and look at your gearing. Do you have 11 speed in the back with a compact? Is your easiest cog a 28?
I've done LP at 195lbs and at 220. There is a world of difference there and the hills will punish you for having extra weight no doubt. Finally if you don't have the ability (proper gearing and sufficient power) to keep to the EN execution it will be a long day. In the end I bailed mentally when I did the race at 220 as I did not want another 15hour IM. I could have finished and I still regret not doing the walk/run in.
If you have a HIM training in for this seasonand proper gearing I believe you will be fine at the training camp. Bring your bike up if possible when you volunteer and ride another loop or two.
Having said all that if logistics are easier for Maryland and you have never raced it I don't see why this would be a bad choice. LP is a great venue don't get in to your own head and scare yourself away from the hills.
