Easter Weekend Quassy RR

Hello there!  Quassy RR #1 is fast approaching!  The plan is for about 8am on Sat. 4/19, but we may move to Fri. if Sat. looks like rain.  (It is showing rain right now for Sat. but I don't trust forecasts this far out!)

I'm not making the rules, just helping to organize so input is welcome re: start time etc.

So, who is coming?  What day can you make it?  What time works?  What is your estimated time/speed (so we can try to get into similarly paced groups)

I'll start....  Hi, my name is Kim and I'm a slow cyclist on the hills.  I'm thinking I'll be riding at maybe 14mph.  I'm flexible on the day as I have Fri. off but would prefer to not do it on Easter due to SAUs.  8am works for me, but I'm flexible.  I'm going to run the Oly course after since I know it, and will get us out and back to Quassy, and the HIM and Oly run courses do have some overlap.  I may bring a buddy or 2 also.  (They will prob want to ride with some of you guys though.... I'm too slow!)

  • Saturday would work best for my plan but can move to Friday if it is going to rain. I would prob average 17-18 depending on how hilly it gets. I will prob do a couple miles after as well.

  • I too prefer Saturday but if rain looks real, I can move to Friday.  I would just want to tell my boss by Thursday AM that I'm taking Friday off.

Kim, I expect to average around 14 mph too.  Also, slow uphill.   I can make 8:00 AM or later...very flexible.

Slight chance my brother-in-law will come...he'll ride whatever pace I'm doing (I assume!).  He knows the course well.  Although i just got a computer with GPS.  If I can figure out how it works by this weekend I'll have that to help.

  • Saturday also works best for me, but we will see what the weather brings our way - no control there! I may be able to do Friday, but not sure yet since I plan to be in MA on Friday. I ride at an intermediate level (average 19.5mph in my last couple of HIM's) , but have never ridden the Quassy course and imagine that I will be somewhat slower and also am not looking to set any records...I haven't ridden on the roads ONCE this year! My wife may join us too (she is also racing Quassy), but I'm not certain about that yet. I may run afterwards as well, but again, I have never been on the course.

Thanks for organizing, Kim. Hoping to meet and ride with everyone.
  • I, along with two others will be heading down from Southern New Hampshire on Saturday rain or shine. I am guessing I ride around 17 however I have no idea. I focus so much on power I never notice speed. (Unless I am gong downhill fast). If raining I would be happy to share my embrocation with anyone. Our ETA is 8:00 however you never know with traffic.
  • Hi all!!!

I will be there Saturday, rain or shine!! I will not be able to be there until 9 because I am coming down with a friend (who needed to get a sitter for her kids).  I am not sure about my avg MPH because it depends on the course! I am thinking maybe around 15? Really not sure though. I am planning to run after and I think I will take Kim's suggestion and do the Oly course! Will print that map out this week. Here's hoping to NO RAIN!!! Really hoping to meet some of you! Hopefully we will run into each other since I am starting a little bit later!! Thanks for organizing Kim

  • So....what is the plan? Is there an "address" where we plan to meet? I am not familiar with the area
  • Here is the link to the directions to Quassy.  Let's meet in the parking lot, near the back (end closest to the road, near the big white painted rocks)  http://www.quassy.com/plan-your-visit/directions/

I'm still debating on what day but it looks like some folks will be doing Sat. rain or shine.  I'm not that brave.  Race Day in 2012 for the Oly was torrential rain and so I'm all set with riding that course in the rain, thank you very much.

I'll probably make my decision by Wed. night and hope the weather forecasters can get their sh** together and predict something within 2 1/2 days!

  • I'm going Saturday regardless of weather, although fortunately the weather is looking decent for Saturday at this point. Did Quassy 70.3 last year, only remember pieces of the bike course. Mostly remember being hot. I remember that SOB run though. Looking forward to revisiting the bike and run, and especially looking forward to seeing teammates Saturday morning! Go EN!

  • Weather looking good for Sat. so I'll see you guys then! I'll prob get there 7:45-ish and plan to start riding 8. I'll bring cue sheets for everyone, including the Oly run in case other peeps want to use that for their run too.

My cousin may join us too and will prob want to ride with some of you guys since he's much faster than me!

    See you Sat!
  • Getting my stuff together for tomorrow. I had forgotten how much stuff there was. Plus all the nutrition I need to carry for a rehearsal.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!

  • Thanks for putting this together for us Kim.

I look forward to meeting everyone tomorrow AM.   It will be nice to see REAL people for a change.  Love the virtual team but...sometimes it can get lonely training alone or with non-EN folks.  Even though we'll probably all separate on the course, just knowing we're all out there doing the same route will feel good.

Get a good night's sleep everyone!

  • Late news: not going to make it. Up much of the night, need to stay close to home today. Disappointed. image. See you another time.

    Stay safe!
  • Great time today at Quassy! Big thanks to Kim for organizing. It was nice to meet and train with EN members in person. We had a great ride and I had an excellent run afterwards. This has really helped my confidence and it also showed that the Outseason work works. I have never felt so strong on hills.
