swim camp drills....HELP

Coach.... Just as a little perspective, per the chart in the swimming ebook my swimming is pretty good (33:xx in HIM, and a 1:09:xx in IMFL last year), BUT I have NEVER done ANY drills. In fact, until joining EN last year I had never done any structured wko in the pool....just jumped in and swam. So I'm optimistic that with some drill training (confession....didn't do any last year), I can improve still.

BUT, I thought I was going to drown doing those Lt. and Rt. arm leads today LOL. I was all excited with my new fins, only to look like a total dork :(. And forget even trying the single,or heaven forbid triple switch's....OMG, I WOULD have drowned.

Is there any video showing these, or any more descriptive explanation.....Your's truly, Mr. swim drill challenged.

  • Swimming with the drill sincerely takes skill, and given your natural ability and may be one step back to take two steps forward. Diligence will be your word for the time being. There are tons of those videos online if you search YouTube give me one second.
  • http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wIPChAthrdM start watching about the 15 second mark to get a good idea.
  • PERFECT, thanks Patrick! I should have thought of youtube, they have everything on it.....there is probably a video of someone COMPLAINING about swim drills on there image
  • Ha!!! If there isn't...you could make one!! :)
  • Patrick, You may be right about one step back for two steps forward. Did 1st 1K TT this AM and was 17:15....really focusing on hip rotation and catch....and 1st 1K TT last year was 16:49, with the best being 16:10 about 7 weeks out from IMFL. Of course the 16:49 TT was after having been swimming for about 8-10 weeks, and the only swimming I've done since IMFL has been swim camp last two weeks. Sound about normal?

Also, what do you think about incorporating some swim drills as part of my warm up from now on? (starting HIM plan this coming Monday...half mary this Sat.)
  • Yes that's normal and yes to drills. I personally like to repeat the same drills for several weeks, making it a very simple routine that I do every time I swim so I can notice even the smallest improvement and change. :-) Keep me posted!
  • 1K TT as part of big tri day last Sat. was 16:50, and I wasn't going all out. AND, swim golf was UNDER 80 (78) this morning.....had been 82-84. Little victories image
