Cycling Cadence Question

Good morning Coach,  When doing a cycling workout and the work out calls for a zone 4 or zone 5 effort, is it better to have a higher cadence (lower gear) to get to and stay in that zone or does it even matter?  I can get to those zones in higher gears easily but my cadence really drops.  Thank you......(btw I don't have a power meter)

  • I would prefer you get the required HR zone by riding harder, not by manipulating cadence to get there. IOW, you should be riding at generally 88-~95rpm and get into the prescribed HR zone with that cadence.

I'm moving this into the Power Forum, where more people will see it.
