IM week 12 adjustment for race

Coach Patrick,
I feel I need to get in one triathlon before I do IM Austria on June 29 and understand the debate of racing a "longish" tri before an IM. I'm scheduled to do Devilman lite this coming Sunday ( 49 or so miles from what I understand). I have no expectations other than providing an opportunity to deal with race nerves, practice pacing in a race situation etc.
I'm on week 12 of the intermediate plan and I've arranged work so I can do my long run (2 hr) We'd AM and long (270') ride Friday morning. My race is on Sunday.

I see that this week of the plan is a testing week but thought I might switch weeks around (keeping the long stuff/ interval/FTP going rather than testing now and reserving testing for a latter date).

I hope I'm not screwing up the plan but, knowing myself, I recognize that getting this race done will help set my brain up better for what lies ahead in June.

With a long run scheduled for Wed AM and my long bike scheduled for FRIDAY morning and my race on Sunday (NOT a full .5 IM) serving as framework how would you set up the rest of the week knowing that the only prize I really want is completing Austria the end of June.

Thanks,
Dave

  • Dave - good call..settling those nerves is totally key!! This week keep your plan but put the FTP ride, no run, on Thursday. Saturday is a short 30' run with 4 pick ups at 5k pace.

Do yourself a favor and outline your race plan, just so you have the experience of race against a plan! Good luck!
  • Thanks Patrick
