"total time" vs "workout"

I apologize in advance for asking this question, as I am sure it has been asked and answered a number of times. The question is: if a workout does not specifically say "...for the remainder of the time..." are we to still complete the total time (ex: 60') or just complete the workout (even if you have completed the WU, MS(s) and CD) in less time then the 60'? For example, my run workout time was 60' total, but I finished everything that was asked in 45'...do I jog (Z1) for 15' or move on to the swim workout for the day?

Thanks for the help!

Yep, it's been asked before and we've answered it a number of times . No worries, here's the deal:

    • We don't really care about the volume of any sessions on your plan except the long bike, long run, and semi-long bike. These three workouts are the only workouts in your plan to which RnP have paid any attention to the volume of the session.
    • For everything else, do "a" warmup, the Main Set(s), and a cool down. If all of that takes you 45' but the prescribed length is 60': (1) if al you have is 45', you're done, don't sweat the 15', or (2) if you do have 60' available, go ahead and do that "remainder" jazz.

Bottomline is that RnP have given about zero attention, and have zero goals, for the volume for these "other" workouts, or to the volume of your training week, for that matter.

  • Thanks, this makes perfect sense!
