Breaking up long rides between trainer and road
Does anyone break up long bike workout by doing interval work on the trainer and the the rest on the road? I'm thinking this may a good idea for a few reasons. 1 - it's tough for me to get the true intervals done on the road. 2 - the road conditions near me are frighteningly bad this year. 3 - mentally, I'm thinking this would break it up since I'm training alone.
I figure this would be an hour on the trainer first, then take it outside.

Yes, that's a method. However, as you get closer to your race it's very important to ride as much as you can in the aerobars, especially for hard efforts. So as long as you do ^that^, and make your transitions from trainer to outside relative speed, then it's ok. In other words, one of the keys for success at long course triathlon is developing "positional fitness," the ability to be comfortable in the bars for long periods of time. So ride in the bars as much as possible and don't take excessively long breaks, allowing your back time to reset.
