General Prep Block 1 vs. Block 2

 I see that the general prep training phase is broken into block 1 and block 2 - how and when should I use which one?  In the season planning tool, I only see general prep (no reference to block 1 or 2).

  • Lots of folks asking this, so I hope it helps:

    1. Gen Prep is just the first 8 weeks of a 20 week plan, the last 12 being Race Prep.
    2. Gen Prep 1 is the first 4 weeks, Gen Prep 2 is the second 4 weeks.
    3. Your basic options:
    • Time Challenged: OS --> Transition --> Race Prep
    • Have Time / Beginner: OS --> Transition --> Gen Prep 1 --> Race Prep
    • Have Time / Advanced: OS --> Transition --> Gen Prep 2 --> Race Prep
    • Have Tons O' Time: OS --> Transition --> Gen Prep 1 --> Gen Prep 2 --> Race Prep

  • @Nemo:  FWIW, the coaches told me to do the block 2 general prep 2x since I'll have done a HIM before general prep I'll be more advanced than the block 1 work... you might want to consider that, too... assuming you have 8 weeks after EM before you start IM prep.
