Travel week of May 12

The week of May 12 will be week 17 of the HIM plan (intermediate) for me. I'll be driving from Kansas City to Houston to support a friend doing IMTX on Saturday the 17th. I'm taking my bike and but likely won't be able to get in regular workouts on Tuesday or Saturday (and limited time on Sunday due to a long drive back). I may be able to swim on Monday and Tuesday before leaving.  Can you offer any suggestions on the key adaptations while in Houston and taking into account disruptions?  Thanks.

  • Todd - I think being on site at an Ironman, but not having to race, is an excellent opportunity to train. No issues whatsoever here. I suggest you focus the early part of that we can swim, and Wednesday will be a travel day. You could certainly plan on riding longer both Thursday and Friday and I would recommend it. Almost like a little training camp for you. Maybe you even consider running off the bike a bit. So this week wouldn't necessarily have a long run but we give you the chance to really boost your bike fitness. My only advice would be to pack lots of lots of bottles as you're going to need tons of fluids. :-)

    If the run is really really important to you than I would plan on two long bike days and doing your long run day on race day. Send isabel recovering the follow make me tested up.
