Dusty H's "Ctrl Alt Del" 2014 Racing Season
Hey Coach,
I've done a reboot on my triathlon season for 2014. I was originally signed up for CDA but my wife and I separated in early March so training just wasn't a priority. Over the past month I've gotten my head back in the training game both as a release and just because I love the way it makes me feel. So I took the opportunity to transfer my CDA registration to IM Maryland which is on 9/20/14. Ironman in 2014 isn't something I have to do, but I want to. I want to do it because my new schedule with custody is here to stay (hopefully) and I need to figure out a way to race with my new schedule requirements. Here's the details on my training situation and what I need to know to get through the remainder of 2014. If you need me to post this as a new season planning request just let me know.
Races:
- Lake Logan Half Iron - 8/2/14
- IM Maryland - 9/20/14
- Beach 2 Battleship Half - 10/25/14
Key Details:
- My wife and I will hopefully have joint custody of our two children (5yo/3yo) so my schedule is a little wonky. I will have the kids every other weekend and training time on those weekends will be limited at best. (perhaps a trainer ride or two - depends on kids since I am in an apartment)
- I also have the kids on M/W nights so Tue/Thur mornings are out for training. I can easily get workouts in later in the day/evening those days.
Key Questions:
- How do I need to modify my training plan to achieve a reasonable level of fitness and be able to race? I don't expect to PR in Maryland, but I'd like a decent athletic performance.
- What should I focus on within my training? Bike/Run?
- Anything else I am missing?
Thanks Coach!
