Skip's Memorial day training.

Hi Patrick

I am sure you are exhausted from Ironman Texas. Did it go well.

Question:  2-3 x 1 mile (4') Does this mean 2 to 3 miles = 2-3 or 2 x 3 miles = 6.

Catch: Am I supposed to be bending my fingers?

This Sunday I traditionally have an all out 44 mile bike ride to Sister's gathering. I can do a run before I go - what should the be? What should my workout be on Friday. I am Ok with a good one if you see it has value.

I have the the Liberty Half Ironman on 6/7 with the Buffalo Olympic on 6/1. I am ending the HIM training on 6/7. I am wondering if I don't need to taper as much as these are B and C races. Should I switch to IM training on 6/1?

  • I meant what should my workout be on Saturday.

  • 2-3 means you get to choose: 2 or 3 x 1 mile depending on how you feel.

On the catch, you do bend the fingers to initiate the armband. By dropping the fingers as you're moving forward in the water this allows the hand to quickly drop while keeping the elbow up to get the arm into position.

As for Saturday, I would get an easy spin. Anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes nothing crazy.
On Sunday I would plan on running a little bit before the bike ride, call it about 30 minutes.

I would plan on tapering a bit just because you have the double races there. This week I would do regular workouts through Thursday and then we start to taper for the half.
