Juice Cleanses ? Good? Bad?

OK, so i have taken the plunge into a juice cleanse.  I am using products that i can by at Whole Food because my juicer is at my brothers and my In-Laws took back their Vita-Mix (after we borrowed it for 3 years).  This will be a 3 day cleanse because I have no will power over food.  Thus why the next three days will be hell for me.

I would love to hear peoples points of view on a cleanse and why they find them valuable/invaluable.  Also make your own vs buying the bottles.

  • God the search feature sucks.... Took me forever to find my own post. Here is a thread I wrote about 3 days of smoothies with nothing but fruits and vegetables in a vitamix. I don't call it a cleanse or juicing because it included all of the plant fibers and believe cleanse is just a buzz word. Anyway check it out and ask away for more info.

  • My nutritionist always told me that cleanses were a bad idea. If you have a well balanced "diet" then you get all you need and want from that food day in and day out.

Just like everything else, one extreme (no fruits and veggies) or the other (juicing and/or smoothies only), is not good for you.
  • Same things--one of the other parents at school said that he was going on a cleanse. Another one of the parents (a pediatric surgeon) went on a tirade about what a bad idea that was. If you feel compelled, go vegetarian for a few days and drink lots of water.
  • Thanks guys. Scott i agree... I am starting to realize that i am not that bad at eating food. I just have some major vices (Cookies and sweets) that i need to break.

I am always hungry on this juice thing and i cant workout because my calories are so bloody low. I am going to keep up with it because i bought the nasty juice and i do not want to waste the money.
  • I cracked like an Ikea Chair at an all you can eat buffet!!!! OK, so i am never meant to do juicing all day every day. Who was I kidding? My will power with food does not exist.

What i learned, beyond being weak, was that i am more addicted to caffeine than i thought. Also that i really get sleepy when i am limited on my food. So needless to say, i tried and i can check that off my list.
