Swim Training Guidance for IMLP

Hi Coach P,

Life got in the way and I was unable to do the Swim Camp after November OS.

So I have been limited to swim training under the IM Beginner Plan. My training has been further curtailed the last three weeks due to a nasty cold with no pool work, just bike and running at reduced volume/intensity. I have recovered from the virus and have jumped back into Week 11.

I need to get my swim training on track for IMLP and looking for any specific guidance you may have. Should I stick with the IM Beginner swim workout schedule? Modify it? By way of background, I am not a fast swimmer so my focus has been more on technique so far.

Thanks in advance.

Bill

  • Frequency is the way to go...so 3 x a week will help 100% more than just 2x. That and as so as you can get into open water we do it.

That last option then is to really poor on the swimming in the final two weeks while you're tapering. This would be a swim every day for at least 30 minutes kind of push. It's important to keep it close to the race itself is swimming is so skill based.
