Dusty Holcomb

Hey Coach P,  Going to be using this tool a lot as I start to get ready for IM Maryland and adjust my training plan to accommodate joint custody with my wee ones.  Thanks in advance for all your help and input!

Here is today's question:  I am doing the Raleigh 70.3 on 6/1.  Normally I would have sufficient build and training so I wouldn't even be concerned about this distance but my training has been sporadic up until the past 6-8 weeks due to my separation so I am taking advantage of every moment I can to log so miles.  Here's what I have in the next couple of days and wanted to get your input on the volume before I go out and do what I am all to likely to do; overtrain...

Friday 5/23 - Masters Swim

Saturday 5/24 - Kiddos (no training unless I can get an hour or so on the trainer)

Sunday 5/25 - PM available to train.  I am thinking a nice 120-180' bike, maybe race pace, ABP followed by a 30' run. How much should I do?

Monday 5/26 - Masters swim and the opportunity to bike and/or run.  How much should I do?

Tuesday 5/26 - Kiddos

Wednesday 5/27 - Masters Swim

I'm good from there with a normal taper.  Main question for today is the Sunday/Monday workouts.  How much should I do?

  • Sunday is 2 hours, with last hour at race pace followed by a 30 minute brick (last 15' at race pace). Monday is masters plus a 2 hour ride that includes 6 x 5' (5') at race watts / effort.

Remember to be hot on race weekend so you going to need to have your nutritional a game. If possible practice that stuff tonight and tomorrow while on the bike.
