Short Course Race Recovery

Looking for some clarification on post race being more important than pre race taper. More important in a sense of proper recovery or more important to get back to scheduled training ASAP? In the past, I usually have raced Sat. rested Sun. then started regular training by Mon.

I work 7 days on/ 7 days off and I will be racing on my off week, so if I do train post race Mon-Wed I will be able to put my feet up afterwards. I start work on Thurs. However if you think I will benefit more from taking more time off then I will do that.

  • My next race will be on July 12. And I'm on the 2nd week of the get faster training plan.
  • Thanks!! It's more important you recover... For a short race you should feel pretty good by about the third day. Half ironman usually take about seven days before you feel human. Full iron distance races will take well over two weeks.

    The reason recovery is critical is so you can absorb the training and build new fitness!
