Kortney Ringel wk 19/20 Q's

Hey Coach P -

I am nearing the end of week 19 in the Advanced HIM plan... getting ready to race Eagleman next weekend.  My legs feel so tired.    Please tell me this is normal during the taper phase (I don't remember my legs feeling this fried before a race).  I can still hit my bike wattages per the plan no problem, but the run paces have been tough to hold in the last couple of runs.

Reassurance/thoughts/whatever would be much appreciated!

  • KR - good to chat you online last night. Please let me know how our modifications work this week… I'll be listening!
  • Hi Coach P:

So, I did as you instructed and took yesterday off and swam today - 30 minutes only. Doing well with getting good night sleep, etc. So now, can you tell me how to handle the rest of my week? Should I just bounce back to the HIM plan, or adjust at all?
  • Good to text you today! Keep me posted!!
  • I did as you suggested - 40 minute z1/z2 bike with 20 minute z3/z1-easy brick run. Felt slightly sluggish on the bike, but I think sometimes I feel that way anyway until I get into a higher zone and go back down. So, I'm not sure it was a huge problem. And the run felt very good... It was on the warmer side today as well, probably similar to race day, and I didn't feel like it affected me too terribly.

So for tomorrow and Friday - what do you recommend? I have a swim (6x150, 8x25) and bike (45m, with 3x8' z3 intervals) on my plan for tomorrow, and then the last-minute spin, ez run scheduled for Fri.

Also, another unrelated question... currently, water temp in the Choptank is 72-ish degrees. Normally, the temp is right on the cusp of not being wetsuit-legal, and when the swim is w/s-legal, I would normally wear my sleeveless suit. If water temp is around 71-72, would you wear the sleeveless still?
  • Do the swim only tomorrow. Then Friday as planned. Yes to sleeveless. I'm not so worried about you being sluggish on the start of the bike, my guess is that a 1.2 mile swim will speed that up. :-)
  • ok, got it! Thank you!
