Family vacation during IM build?
Ok so I got the green light from my sweetie to try an IM next year and I am thinking about tremblant 2015 ( August 25 or so). ( she actually said " well you better do one soon because you aren't getting any faster"- ).
I have also been kicking around the idea of taking the family to Europe for a couple of weeks and next year would be the sweet spot in terms of the kids ages, and school and sports calendars. The least disruptive time to go from their point of view would be the last 2 weeks of June. Our trip would probably be the usual London, Paris, Rome thing, with maybe a couple of training days in mallorca for me, but otherwise limited training except a lot of walking.
Is it crazy for me to contemplate a two week vacation 8 weeks before my first ironman? Or should I put the IM off another year? I really can't do a fall ironman due to work commitments. I possible could do a spring ironman but that would mean most of my riding would be indoors.

A 2wk EU vacation with your family would be pretty epic and Ironman will always be there. If she gave you permission to do an IM next year, she'll probably do it again in '16 vs '15?
Do IM France (last weekend June), roll into it with a two week taper consisting of the vacation? Those last two weeks don;'t add to fitness anyway.
What Bob said. But do a lot of running. At least short runs every day. And bring swim suit and wetsuit and jump in whenever possible.
Or what Al said. Lots of European race options. Too bad Regensburg no longer around. A pain lugging bike around. But maybe ship it home. TriBike Transport also doing some European races now.
I fully realize its a champagne problem we are discussing. But it's nice to have champagne problems every once in a while.
