Who's getting an iPad tomorrow?

Wondering if I'm the only one sitting here in eager anticipation of getting my hands on an iPad tomorrow? I pre-ordered one, and it should be delivered tomorrow morning.

It's a funny thing, as I'm seldom the earliest adopter on the block, but I've been hoping that this device would come out since last spring, when I first started considering getting a Kindle.  Now, I really can't wait until tomorrow.  Of course, I'm likely to spend most of the daylight hours constructing a swingset, so we'll see how much time I actually get to play with it...

  • I've been thinking about it. I was thinking I would wait until the 3g one came out. Even though I may not ever use the 3g, I think it would be smart to at least have the capability if I needed it.
  • Seems nice. I was starting to consider electronic media for reading since our vacations tend to involve a lot of flying and waiting. But the ipad info I found says you can only buy books from itunes and their book library is small (60k) as compared to what is out there (250k). Have you heard something else?
  • On the books front, it's widely assumed that the Amazon Kindle app which is currently available for the iPhone will have an iPad counterpart, which would mean that you can choose to read using the Apple iBookstore, or the Amazon Kindle store.  In addition, since the iBooks app uses the ePub standard, there are 10's of thousands of free ebooks out there (all the classics) through sites like Project Gutenberg for free.

So I don't think that number of available books will be a limiter for the iPad.  Of course, Apple could go and block the Amazon app (we'll find out for sure soon), but that seems like an unlikely move at this point.  I'd also be very surprised if Apple's bookstore wasn't up to Kindle standards pretty quickly.

  • I'm already on the pre-order for the 3G version - very pumped up for it! I'm planning to use it for presentations, and so I don't have to carry around my laptop for everything. The battery life that they seem to be getting is pretty impressive - not sure how the 3G will affect that, but it sure kills any laptop option out there now.
  • Me too 3G version.  Can't wait!!

  • We got no stinking 3G here in Montana...so we ordered 2. Cant wait until tomorrow.

  • looking forward to your feedback and pics! I am on an anti-technology kick (Macbook + iphone is enough), but i am jealous off all the kindle books I see rich reading... (although I think that's a time problem on my end, not a technology one!). image
  • and PLEASE will someone take a picture with it pretending to use it as a giant phone? Preferably in a funny oversized chair?? image
  • It works awesome as a portable a/v device. Set up trainer in the workroom and set the iPad on a laptop table at perfect eye height and did 1 hour trainer work out from Rich Pady and then did another 40 min watching a show about the US ski team. Books look awesome in both the iBook reader and the Kindle readers(I have the EN long course manual on Kindle) but Stanza hasn't optimized to the iPad yet. Games look good and I like having the iWorks apps. Obviously pretty happy with the purchase.

I'm getting one to replace my Garmin 705. Then I can catch up on the EN forums and podcasts on long rides.

  • That is absolutely hilarious!
