Bringing wheel to IMCDA

I am going to send my bike to IMCDA using Tri Bike Transport. They have a policy about disk wheels which affects me because I intend to use a wheel cover and I would rather not attach the cover at the race.

I seem to have 2 options:

1) Ship bike with PowerTap wheel without cover, somehow bring cover separately in luggage, attach cover at race which is a pain.

2) Ship bike with spare wheel, bring PowerTap wheel already covered in wheel bag on plane. (I like this idea so I can keep using power on my roadbike while the tri-bike is in transit)

Does anyone have any experience with bringing a wheel on a plane?

Thanks!

No experience with bringing a wheel on a plan...just promise you won't be that jackass in compression gear who boards the plane with his wheel thinking it should fit in the overhead. I've seen that a few times...

Maybe see if WB has hard wheelcase you could borrow or rent? Or Lynda N might have one you could borrow?

  • Last year I used TBT and sent the disc wheel with the bike  in a separate wheel bag.

  • I think that is what it says to do on TBT if you have a disc. Ship it with TBT in a wheel bag. I think it is $25. My question was to this is: do you put a spare wheel on your bike to ship it then? or does TBT provide you with something?

  • Wheelcover is not an isssue. Wheelcover wheel stays right on bike with Tribike. I have done at least three times. So just drop off your full race set up. No extra wheel needed. No cover to install when you get there. Etc.

Can not have an actual disc wheel on bike. Actual solid disc wheel has to go separately. Tribike does not provide extra wheel.
