As someone who lost Power readings during at least two A-races it sure makes me think!!!
What do You think???

  • After training and racing with power for 2 years now I'm absolutely sure I would be able to race without my PowerMeter and would still be able avoid high VI values and ride steady at the desired power-level according to the race distance!!
I've learned how it "feels" to ride on IM, HIM or Threshold power levels from that period of training!

For training it's a totally different story - I absolutely NEED my PM there EVERY SECOND!! It keeps me motivated and pushing myself during hard intervals and everything beyond Z4 is just "guessing" without a PM for me.
  • @Stefan, totally in agreement with you I sense "training feel" could be part of our protocol and I intend to do a few sessions accordingly during IM training (just in case I run out of battery on race day again!!!! + new battery for race day of course!!!)
  • I used to exchange my battery on my PM before EVERY A-Race. It's just 2$ but gives you so much safety
  • My powermeter decided to not work during my last IM. I pulled to the side during the first mile and fiddled with it for a few minutes but to no avail. Had to ride 112 without those numbers I had been looking at over the previous four years.

I kept my RPE where it felt good and everything was fine.
