Three part question for you Patrick.

1. Finishing the intermediate spring plan with a race on Saturday (not Sunday). Plan for the rest of the week is to ride 45 minutes zone 2 on Thursday (no zone 4), take Friday off, race Saturday, and recover Sunday. Does that sound OK?

2. Loading up the intermediate get faster plan starting on week 4. I am also heading out for a 12 day trip with the family in our camper on Monday. I will certainly have my running gear and my bike with me. Pool access wil be limited, but I think I might be able to squeeze a few sporadic swims in when staying near larger cities. I can probably get one workout a day in. 2.5 hour bike rides will cause a loss of SAU's. Next race (Olympic) isn't until mid-August. Any thoughts on what I might want to do?

3. I am debating between the road bike and the tri bike for the trip. Tri bike has the power meter, but I'm a bit more comfortable handling the road bike in unfamiliar places. Probably less of a chance of the road bike getting ripped off or something bad happening to it hanging off the back of the SUV and sitting outside for days. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks!

  • Joe - I think your plan for this weekend is perfect, enjoy the race! As for vacation it's really hard to have any specific goals just because it's supposed to be vacation, not all about you. :-) I would set a goal of getting in an hour a day maybe 90 minutes if you're on the bike and that's it. You can do a lot of damage to yourself in 90 minutes on a bike ride. :-) literally I would just alternate days bike and run as you can. Keep it easy and fun, you've still got plenty of time when you get back to keep building the fitness.

Road bike brother always the road bike. I'm with you on the handling and I just feel better with my baby at home.:)
