Trouble with Wheel cover rubbing on cassette and derailleur

I recently attached my new wheel cover on my back wheel and discovered it is rubbing on the cassette and derailluer.  Anyone in the haus have problems with this and how did you fix it?

  • Kathy,

Based on my experience with the wheel covers and Shimano components, when you took the cassette off the hub did you see a thin metal ring under your cassette?  If so, take your cassette and wheel cover off and then remove the metal ring, install the wheel cover, and then reinstall the metal ring and then cassette.  Hope this helps.

  • Rob, thanks for the suggestion.  I will try that and let you know!

  • Kathy, Rob beat me too it but I'll bet that's it.
  • Dan and Rob,  so last night took the wheel cover off and checked for the spacer and yes, there is a small, thin silver spacer, but unforturnately that was already on there and it is still rubbing.  I'm thinking maybe another one might do the trick?  But, wonder if that will mess up the derailleur?  Waiting on Wheelbuilder with some suggestions.

  • Kathy- the ring needs to be on the outside of the wheel cover, basically between the cassette and the cover. Is that where you found it?

Yep, Nemo I found it between the cassette and cover.  Have you had any problems with wheel covers rubbing?

  • Only when I forgot to move the ring! Let us know what WB says.
  • Where is the best place for me to go to get a wheel cover made?

    Thanks

I bought mine through Wheelbuilder.  EN members used to get a discount, but not sure if that offer is still available.  You could pm Rich and ask or go to the power/pace forum and there might be some info on there.

  • Wheelbuilder- EN gets a discount. Check out the "buy your power meter through EN" thread for the information
  • Kathy,

This is a very common problem. There are one or two other tricks of which I'm not privy too (or just can't remember). E-mail Rich Sawaris. It's also possible that the wheelcover just needs to be trimmed.

    Thanks, Chris

I did email Wheelbuilder.  Waiting to hear back.  Thanks.

  • Heard back from Vikki Appel from WB and her instructions are to file the hole in the cover near the drive train side to fit as close to the spokes as possible.  Thats it.  Gonna try it soon, hoping it works.

  • Thanks for the follow through Kathy- let us know how that works out!
