Garmin 810 Race Day Field Help....

So I raced this weekend and had autolap on but then realized that lapping just lapped and didn't change what I saw. Dowh.

I like to race with Power / Speed and then I have  IF, HR, Time, Cadence on the dial.

One thought was to replace IF with Current Lap Normalized Power...but I am curious what you smart folks do...thanks!

The $99 Joule 2.0 - sans GPS - has the advantage of showing 6-8 fields at a time, and toggling between current lap data and entire ride data for those same fields, giving up to 16 fields at the push of the button covering anything you might want.

  • Like Al, I run a Joule on my bike but also have my 910XT set up to show scrolling screens every few seconds.

Screen 1) Lap NP, 3s Pwr, Current Lap time

Screen 2) HR, speed, avg speed

Screen 3) Time of Day, Race time

    Screen 4) TSS, distance, IF

    SS

  • KISS..... Race Day Screen.... 3 Windows.... 3sec power , Lap NP (5miles) , Time....... Screen 2 has distance , NP , TSS but I never look at it..... NO other screens...IMO speed , HR , Cadence is just noise and clutters the device.... Easier to read with only 3 windows since the eyes aint what they used to be.
  • Great stuff all...Thanks!
  • Did you also move to the Garmin from the Joule?

From using the Joule 2.0 I liked that when it was in the "interval or lap" mode it gave you IF for that Lap, where looking at the Garmin Edge 500 the only option for IF is for it to display the IF for the entire ride? I can get it to show Current Lap NP, but can not seem to get it to give a Current Lap IF it only wants to show IF for entire ride.

I only did recently move cause while the Joule 2.0 will pick up the Power2Max PM, it kept wanting to go to sleep after @ 4-5 minutes cause it did not know if you were moving or not, and therefore was not recording time so it would not give any IF or NP or speed or distance, only current power....and in 4 minutes a blank screen.
  • @john, yes I moved b/c I ride in so many new places the navigation is key. I am using current lap NP. My FTP hasn't changed more than 10 watts in the last 5 years so I can do the IF stuff in my head. image
