  • Al,

Interesting read and here was the zinger that stood out to me "An unconventional new study suggests that people’s attitudes toward physical activity can influence what they eat afterward and, ultimately, whether they drop pounds."

Attitude is everything! With a sort of placebo/nocebo set up I think the study was well done. I believe the subconscious mind has a lot to do with how we interpret our exercising and how it sets us up for success or failure. My thoughts about attitude being everything is using the conscious mind and self talk to override a built in trained subconscious mind that would prefer to be a couch potato.

The next step is how to harness that conscious " can will do attitude " 24 x 7.
  • Very interesting Al, thanks. FWIW, I definitely tend to be more likely to overindulge or just not eat as "clean" after a WKO that is frustrating or didn't go as I'd hoped. Whereas if I rocked it (ie... It was "fun"), I tend to be much more motivated to make really healthy eating choices.

That has always puzzled me since my logical mind thinks that it's after the crappy WKO that I'd be much more likely to keep the diet really good to "make-up"for the poor WKO, but the opposite is usually true with me. I'd just always chalked it up to all-or-nothing, slightly OCD personality trait that I think I, and a lot of endurance athletes have.
  • Thanks, Al.  I just got back from my long run.  What a beautiful day.  Hiker/biker trail right beside the Little Miami River.  Sun streaming through the trees across the path. I'm not a masochist, but the discomfort of the run is welcome, because I know it will get me ready to achieve my goals.  Thanks for reminding me how much fun I'm having.
