  • Sparty droopen zee hammerskop on der Boon.
    Holy shneikeez!
  • Very cool to watch. Thanks for posting.
  • Awesome! Watched it live yesterday - great way to spend 4hrs on an Easter sunday! It was the distance he made in less than a few minutes, some 250m and that was that, game over!

So, you think he peaked too soon for Roubaix next sunday?? Boonen will be out for revenge no doubt.

  • Saw this on VersusHD yesterday. Looks like Fabian just dropped a gear and started spinning so much faster. Boonen chose poor gearing and couldn't push hard enough in the bigger gears.

I can't wait to see cycling LOVE like this in ToC!!!

    Don't forget, Paris-Roubaix next weekend!
  • @Scott - nah, Fabien just sat back in the saddle and put the hammer down while Boonen just blew-up and had to get out the saddle - on that surface (damp & uneven cobbles) that was the kiss of death.
  • I sooo enjoyed watching this yesterday. Leffe Blonde in one hand, tivo remote in the other.
  • Watching this right now. I must say that it makes me smile to see a pro have to get off the bike and walk up a climb sometimes.
  • awesome stufff!!!!! Thanks for sharing!
  • It totally looks like Boonen is over-geared but I'm guessing it's more because of his riding style. Sparticus just took it to a new level.
  • Cancellara is so impressive. Since the Worlds RR last year he looks like an all rounder instead of "just" the best tt guy in the world. I'm smitten, but Tom the Terrible knows how to win Roubaix. If sticks to the pubs and stays out of the clubs this week he should be fine. image
  • @Scott, you are correct. In the interview after the race on Versus Cancellara said he dropped a gear and picked up his cadence. He's an animal. Great to see him drop the hammer.
  • What the heck were they riding on? That looked like cobblestone hell!!!
  • The Muur looks like a beast. I heart Fabian!
  • That was an amazing display of power and grace on Cancellera's part. I can't imagine the power output up the Muur.

Right - all due respect to Alberto, but Cancelllera is the strongest bike rider on the planet. The only man who can pull away ALL ON HIS OWN from any peloton or smaller group of elite riders, on any course. As this day proves, even on a(short), steep slope. It was a trip to watch BOONEN struggle to stay in his slipstream on the flats after they broke away.

BTW, thanks to Dan, the starter of this thread for NOT including in the title any spoiler about the outcome of the race. I was saving it on DVR to weatch today during my 1 3/4 hours FTP intervals on the trainer. Lucikly, bike racing is not like March Madness, there's little chance a co-worker might randomly spill the beans to me.

  • Cary,

Thanks for the shots of Cancellera's SRM head unit. I was surprised at the relatively low average power; it speaks to the work his team did early on to deliver Fabian fresh when the hammer dropped. Peak power: 1450!
  • Can't remember the stats but what impressed me about Cancellera was during last years TdF prologue in Monaco, think he averaged some silly 450w+ number and his avg cadence was 120 rpm+! The ability to 'spin' like that & still make the power is super-human, so efficient. Wonder what his FTP is? Have an old ProCycling mag with a profile on Robert Gesink - think he was around 6.5w/kg or something equally as silly! :-)

    Agreed.  Thanks Dan!

I finally got to watch the recording of Paris-Roubaix tonight.  Geeze- that's some smart racing.
