Rr 1-power or no?

First RR tomorrow. It's going to be a big bastardized because of the fact that there will be no swim-no pool open early enough. A race is 3 months out. No power in the tri bike-need to get it to shop for adjustment. Better to do rr on tri bike (need the practice with position for sure) and go by HR and rpe or on road bike with ptap?

Own view is that at this point the difference is not critical but later in the summer it will be. Thoughts?

Roll the RR to when you'll be able to do it on the tri bike, with power.

  • If it's three months to your race, it's probably a "Big Day", and not a true race rehearsal. That far out, it's really your choice which bike to ride. Me, I;d use the tri bike, cause it;s more comfortable than my road bike, but if you are still learning how to train/race with power, better to work on that. Just be aware that the readings from your road position will not be transportable to your TT bike when you do start using that. They will probably be higher, yet you will be going slower.

  • Al-you're right--it's a "big day" that had to be hacked. Plan (per coach P) is to do the swim TT tonight, then get up early tomorrow and hammer out the bike and run. My outdoor intervals have consistently been pretty good -- 1.00-1.01 VI. (Trainer ints are uniformly at 1 or .99). Power on the Tri bike will definitely take a while to catch up--I'm on 165mm cranks v 172.5s on the road bike and the feel is quite different. There are lights and so forth on the route, but at this point I just want to get the work done. Am alternating between road for intervals (e.g. weekday and sat) and tri for ABP. Eventually, I'll move to TT on weekends both days, and road during the week as I'll have to work that into my commute.

Rich has talked sense into me re: racing and getting the wheel fixed--just need to find the right time to go to the bike shop, which is "more boring than the bank" according to my kids. I now understand tha thte RR is a different animal, and have found a pool in the burbs that has lap time at seven AM. Figure I can run RRS and transition out of the car later in the summer. It's still going to be hot, but not as hot as waiting for our local to open up at 9am.
