Which glue for magnet to a carbon wheel?

I have to glue a wheel magnet to a carbon wheel (Hed3) and was looking for advice on what to use? Not sure I want something permanent for resale reasons but I don't want it flying off and shutting down my computer during a race either.

Advice?

  • I would use double sided tape.

  • don't use crazy glue or supper glue! I tried that on a carbon aerobar pad rest, it worked but made a mess and turned the carbon white in the area near it. No big deal under a pad and I called to check and fonud out it doesn't do any damage, but it would not look good on a wheel.
  • thanks guys.

  • I use velcro. Cut little squares out of the adhesive backed stuff, and put one on the wheel and the other on the magnet - that's for my wheel with carbon "spokes". It works fine as long as the pickup doesn't get out of position. If I'm feeling paranoid, I Scotch Tape around over the magnet around the spoke. Or, at other times (back when I used these wheels in races - they are my training wheels now), I used the magnet with holes in it for zip ties, and tied around the spoke.

  • I did a little google search and found that using Tubular glue works well. Some just put the magnet in position and run tape around the spoke (Hed3) and magnet. All great suggestions.

  • I have a HED 3C front wheel and bought a magnet with adhesive backing from my LBC. It's held fine for the past 18 months. Just got a Garmin 500 today so the magnet is coming off along with the sensor mounted on the fork. That will clean my bike up and save me 3 nanoseconds over an IM bike course!!
  • x2 with Vince. I use tubular glue and a zip tie to attach my magnet to my Xentis wheels.
  • BTW: I just received 40 rare earth magnet discs that are about .125 x .375 (thinner than a dime and as big around as a normal cycling computer magnet). I do not need 40 of them. If anyone needs a magnet email me and I will mail it to you.

chironeuro@starstream.net put "bike magnet- endurance nation" in the subject line so my spam filter doesn't toss you.
