Garmin 510 Wigged out during Power Test

So...doing my power test outside today and the Garmin wigged out.

did my warm ups, 5 minute at 120%, 10 minute easy spin, 11:21 into the 20 minute interval and the garmin stopped reading anything ANT+ (HR monitor & Powertap)

ughhhh

ended my test, swagged my FTP (6watt bump!) based on what I have been seeing on rides and how this backs into my 120% number and where I was on track with in the test, I think it is accurate, so I called it a day. Went to do my run and figured i ought to test both the HR strap & the PT against my 910XT which picked up both, and turned on the 510 again, only to have it pick up both the HR monitor & PT.

Wondering if anyone has ideas as to what may have happened?

  • Hey Scott. My 510 was acting up a few weeks ago, giving speed spikes e.g. 120 mph and the like!! I traced it back to a low battery in the Ant+ sensor. Has been working fine with fresh battery installed. Btw, as part of trouble shooting, I also updated the 510 firmware but prior to replacing the battery in the sensor.
  • I know the Edge 510 has the rechargeable built-in battery, but if all else fails, replace ALL batteries!
  • thanks Scott, always my first belief is the batts, replaced em all about a month or so ago. I was just surprised that everything got picked up by the 910 AND the 510, just 20 minutes later. Did a 75 mile 4 hour ride yesterday, no issues on anything!!!
  • My 510 one day just stopped reading power during a Saturday ride. One other rider told me it had happened to him before too. He said reset the whole device, in setting I think, start over and put all your data back in. Batteries are cheap so why not do that anyway.
You certainly get to know more abou the 510 when you reprogram it too.
