Matt H's Training Week Tweak

Coach,

I'm going on vacation for a couple weeks at a lake house starting next week.  I'll be in Week 9 and 10 of the HIM plan during that time and I won't have a bike with me.  I won't have access to a lap pool either, but I can get some good open water swimming training in the lake.  Any suggestions on how to tweak my plan since I won't be able to use a bike or a lap pool?  Should I add strength training workouts for my legs on the bike days, or just do more swimming and running? Also, how should I adapt my swim workouts to open water?

I have my own ideas, of course, but wanted to ask my coach.  Thanks for the help!

  • Swim as much as you can...it's such a help. On run days you can swim 30'; non run days up to an hour. Keep your regular run schedule ( FTP and Long Run ) then run 30' a day on the other days -- we make up for no bike with consistent run training. Open water is about steady swimming...I usually recommend easy out, upper steady v
