Skipped long run...

So I guess I lost my mojo somewhere in traffic tonight. I started the run thinking I could work off my hostility but no luck. I was doing like 2 mins slower than Z1 then I got depressed and bailed after 4 miles, and I just didn't care. (Very unlike me). Not sure if I should give it another shot. (I'm in week 13 of HIM). I could try to run tomorrow afternoon (1/2 day at work) or Sunday, but then I'd miss the ABP ride. ( haven't ridden yet this week). I could do the abp ride tomorrow, long ride sat. Run Sunday? What Do u think? I hope the mojo isn't gone for good!

  • No single workout makes or breaks your training. It's the cumulative effort that matters.
  • Just move on. A day of rest is probably what you needed.
  • No worries Kim, take a mental break, reset and continue with the next day. My IM week 11 testing week has been one big series of consecutive failures.. My race rehearsal last Friday and Saturday went great, but this week has been a nightmare and really had me down. I think I'll take tonight off so I can get back to work tomorrow and enjoy my run and Saturday ride.
  • Thanks for the comments! What is weird is that I just had 2 weeks off post-Quassy. Literally did nothing. (One week was a stomach bug). Then I did the IMLP training camp (1 loop sat. Then a shirt 15 mile ride + 5 mi run Sunday) so I wouldn't think I'd need a break, physically or mentally but who knows. I think I might run vs. ride on Sunday since running is my weakness.
  • You might just be out of the groove. Don't forget that being in training "mode" means you are on autopilot sometimes....so when you are out of that mode, it can be hard to get into the groove again.
  • Yesterday I rode with my roadie neighbor. 46 miles, .81IF, 1.27VI, 2700 ft/gain. More of an interval wko than endurance training but it was fun! Don't they say that you get better by riding with people that are better than you?

Attempted the longish run again today. Started off pretty ugly, slow w elevated heart rate and wife dropped me like a ton of bricks. Got my mojo back a little at the turnaround and the slight elevation decline helped. Managed 7 mi at Z1 pace. Wife helped me off the "I suck at running, why am I doing this" ledge by throwing some of my previous words of wisdom to her back at me. Need to get some run confidence back. Def. lost some fitness and/or mojo with nearly 2 weeks off post-Quassy.

Coach P question: I'm traveling this week for work thurs so no long run on thurs. How would you reco I rejigger my week to accommodate that? (1/2 day of work on fri. so ability to move something there....). Thanks!
  • Hey you can't have your cake and eat it too. If you demolish yourself on a bike workout you can also expect to be a rockstar on the run. :-)

I suggest you do the long run on Wednesday this week, and then enjoy a nice day off before the rest of the weekend.

So Tuesday would be the interval bike and Brick run, Wednesday the long run, Thursday off, Friday swim with the optional 45 minute run with strides and then the weekend as planned.
