Back to Back Bike Workouts
Summer is here and the kids are home, which puts this very busy mom into overdrive and especially now given I am 8 weeks out from IMMT. With all four of my kids on the local summer swim team, I had to shift my long bike from Sat to Sunday so that I could be at the kids swim meets on Sat. So, I'm riding my long bike on Sunday and my follow up bike workout on Monday. I have been doing this on the trainer early before the kids wake (my husband travels most Mondays) to not disturb the flow of their busy day. My question: given my situation of having to ride the trainer on Monday, should I be doing the full 3hrs or less? The past 3 Mondays I've done the full 3hrs and I'm starting to feel a bit worn down with the volume in the saddle. BUT, I'm excited about the gains I've achieved on the bike and don't want to regress either. Your thoughts?

Not sure if moving days around would work for you since Sunday is the only weekend day you have to ride long.
Typically if you are doing your "outside" ride on the trainer you can get much more "work" in, in the same amount of time. I'm not sure the exact ratio but I would guess that your 3 hour prescribed ride could be accomplished in 2.5 hrs on the trainer. I am afraid I would eat a bullet if I had to do 2.5 hr trainer rides every week, but if it works for your schedule then you go girl.
You should not be doing the full 3hrs on a trainer. I recommend you repeat the bike interval session for the week, so that each week you're getting:
^This^ is a good enough schedule, given the fact that you're a busy mom with 4 kids and something has to give. Good luck!
Thanks Coach R, starting Monday this is what I will do!
