Triathlon Season Roadmap

Hey Coach Rich,

When I did IMCDA last year, you had actually put me on a different program for the first 10 weeks.  I think it might have been to build speed.  Is there a reason why you just have me on the intermediate schedule?  I noticed that even on the intermediate schedule, I'm already riding 3 hours on saturday and another long ride this sunday.  Not sure if I'd really consider that much of a build phase.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Ted

  • Also, the training is a 20 week program but I'm 21 weeks out. Should I just repeat week 1's workout?

    Hi Ted,

Welcome back! Here is the season plan I did for you back in Jan '13:

^This^ was based on the description of your fitness and training that you gave me at that time, which is different from what you gave me a couple days ago and with which I made you TSR. That's why they are very different.

So is the issue that you feel that the volume in Wk1 of the IM plan isn't a good fit for you? Thanks, just trying to make sure we're on the same page here.

  • Hey Coach,

Yeah, I was wondering about the 3 hr bike on Sat and 1.5 on Sun. I can do it, I just thought it a bit much this early in the season. If I recall last year though, I had already done a few 50-60 mile rides last year at the point of registration. If you think I should just stay on the regular intermediate training no worries.

    Thanks,

    Ted

You'll be fine with the Intermediate plan, cycling volume in the Beginner plan would only be marginally best. If you want, you can drop that Sat bike down to 2-2.5hrs, but you'll be fine with 3hrs/1.5hrs. Cycling fitness comes back very quickly, you'll see.
