Warming up the legs

I'm only doing short course this year (sprints and olys), so it's important to get up to speed as fast as possible to not waste any time.

I'm a weak swimmer, spend a lot of time in the water. WAY more than I should. I've been doing tris for 10 years now, and still an issue.

I'm a strong cyclist, but believe I'm losing some time while waiting for my legs to "warm up" after my swim and when I jump on my trusty steed.

Any suggestions on what to do to maximize my bike time? Tri Bike is fitted, pimped out all aero (404 front and 808 rear w/ cover), Conti 4000s, sperm helmet w/ visor, no extra crap hanging off of it, etc.

Obviously, my never-ending quest to get out of the water faster, but anything else you can suggest?

Pre-swim run? Some of my friends have had some luck with this lately.

Extra high cadence spinning at the beginning of the ride?

Other ideas?

  • I think the important thing is to make sure you get out of the water with your HR in control and not totally jacked. As a weaker swimmer you are suseptable to a really jacked HR coming out of the water, then needing to underclub your wattage in order to get it under control. That is my experience as a weak swimmer in olympic-distance events at least.
